Born in Aachen in 1973, Niklas was soon drawn to the far reaches of our world. In New York, he studied directing at the New York Film Academy. Since 1997, he has been working as a director.

Niklas' authentic storytelling creates characters that are vivid and believable. Together with his unconventional view of the world and an impressive visual style, he succeeds in creating moments that can be both, emotional and intimate, but also humorous and fun, offering the viewer a lot of room for identification.

With his works, Niklas succeeded in winning the Grimme Award (youth series "5vor12"|2018). In addition, his works have been awarded in several other national and international competitions, e.g. by the ADC Germany, the CCA Austria, the German Communication Association as well as a Lion in Cannes.

In 2021 and 2022 he directed two episodes of the fantasy TV show Mysterium, which deals with the issues of youth, identity and friendship.
